Mission
of the Course
The mission is to educate individuals in the
concepts, tools, terminology, and integration of topics within
the operations functions. The course is designed to teach
candidates in-depth knowledge of a variety of subjects specific
to production and inventory management.
l
Three
main modules of the course
1) Entry module-Basics of Supply Chain
Management: Terminology and basic concepts related to managing
the complete flow of the materials from suppliers to customers.
2) Core competency module-Master Planning of
Resources, Detailed Scheduling and Planning, Execution and
Control of Operations: Available methodologies and techniques to
drive processes and the application of these techniques.
3) Capstone module- Strategic Management of
Resources: Choosing the appropriate methodologies and techniques
for specific needs and an appreciation for the integrated nature
of the operation.
l
Explanation of
the Modules:
Ø
Basics of
Supply Chain Management (module one)
An introduction for production and inventory
management, this module provides basic definitions and concepts
for planning and controlling the flow of materials into,
through, and out of organization. It explains fundamental
relationships among the activities that occur in the supply
chain from suppliers to customers. In addition the module covers
types of manufacturing systems, forecasting, master planning,
materials requirements planning, capacity management, production
activity control, purchasing, inventory management,
distribution, quality management, and just-in-Time/Lean
manufacturing.
Ø
Master
Planning of Resources (module two)
In this module, trainee explore processes
used to develop sales and operations plans; identify and assess
internal and external demand and forecasting requirements; and
again an understanding of the importance of producing achievable
master schedule that are consistent with business policies,
objectives, and resource constraints. The module focuses on
developing and validating a plan of supply, relating management
of demand.
In addition, the module encompasses concepts
for transforming sales, marketing, and business requirements
into a feasible and economic operations plan in various business
environment. It also addresses concepts and methodologies for
managing projected and actual demands from distribution networks
and external customers.
Finally, the module presents methods for
integrating sales and operations plans, demand forecasting, and
customer demand into a specific master schedule.
Ø
Detailed
Scheduling and Planning(module two)
In this module, trainee focus on the various
techniques for materials and capacity scheduling. The module
includes detailed descriptions of the materials requirements
planning (MRP), capacity requirements planning (CRP), inventory
management practices, and procurement and supplier planning. New
techniques are discussed, including material-dominated
scheduling and process-dominated scheduling, which are
applicable to process industries and other mature production
environments.
Ø
Execution
and Control of Operations (module two)
This module focuses on three main areas:
prioritizing and sequencing work; executing work plans,
implementing controls, and reporting activity results; and
evaluating and providing feedback on performance. The module
explains techniques for scheduling and controlling production
and process operations.
It also addresses the execution of quality
initiatives and continues improvement plans, as well as the
control and handling of the inventories.
Finally, the module presents techniques for
evaluating performance and collecting data for effective
feedback.
Ø
Strategic
Management of Resources (module three)
In this module, trainee explore the
relationship of existing and emerging processes and technologies
to manufacturing strategy and supply chain-related functions.
The module addresses three main topics: aligning resources with
the strategic plan, configuring and integrating operating
processes to support the strategic plan, and implementing
change. For maximum comprehension of course content, trainee
should be familiar with the information and concepts presented
in the other modules before taking this course.
